Striving to find cures and end the Breast Cancer disease, the American Cancer Society encourages people to participate in the Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk. The non-competitive 5k run/walk will help bring a lifetime of change for people facing breast cancer and their families.

Presented by Dream Team Events and Jiminy Stitch-It, the 5k race is a fun run/walk where people have the opportunity to run with zombies and raise funds for the San Jose Parks Foundation. People of all ages are welcome to participate and dress up as zombies.

Celebrate the Day of the Dead with your family and friends at the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. La Ultima Parada will showcase the vibrancy of the Dia de Los Muertos celebration and Mexican culture through a collection of cultural festivities, dances, musical performances to honor the living and the dead. Adorning altars and a graveyard will be on display for the viewing pleasure. The event will also include a Ferris wheel and other family friendly activities like face painting, sugar skull decoration, and mask making.

The City of San José and the Santa Clara Valley Water District are hosting a series of resource fairs this month to help residents prepare for winter storms.
At the resource fairs, residents will have the opportunity to learn about the district’s tools to monitor stream, reservoir and rainfall levels and where to access this information made available through the district’s gauge system. There will also be free sandbag workshops to demonstrate the proper filling and placement of sandbags. Residents will learn about helpful smartphone apps to prepare for an emergency, and receive a free emergency preparedness workbook and emergency starter kit.
