    November 17, 2017 - January 15, 2018 @ Circle of Palms

    For the 8th executive year, the San Jose Downtown Association and their partners, Kristi Yamaguchi’s Always Dream Foundation and Hawaiian Airlines, will be hosting the South Bay’s largest outdoor skating rink through the holiday season. People of all ages are welcome to experience the outdoor skating rink at the Circle of Palms between the Fairmont Hotel and San Jose Museum of Art.

  2. Sonic Runway

    November 20, 2017 - January 19, 2018 @ San Jose City Hall

    The City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Burning Man Project present Sonic Runway by Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant as the first artwork selected for the Playa to Paseo initiative. Sonic Runway is a light-art installation that visualizes the speed of sound. The artwork is 432 feet long and stretch across a city block between 4th and 5th streets in front of San José City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95113. Sonic Runway converts audio signals into a pattern of lights that shoot down a corridor of arches at the speed of sound, (1235kph /767mph). Live audio input is analyzed and converted into intricate patterns that shoot down the corridor with sound and lights in sync. The artwork can be be viewed nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. through January 2018.

    Instructor: Frank Niccoli Format: Outdoor Lecture & Mini Hands-on Workshop Discover how and why drought tolerant plants need less water, and how to plant and care for them. Learn how to prune parts of native plants, such as branches, buds, and roots to improve or maintain their health. Dress for the elements! Wear closed-toed shoes, a hat, and bring water. Tools and light refreshments will be provided.

    Roosevelt Community Center hosts Winter Candyland in partnership with the Office of Councilmember Raul Peralez and the nonprofit organization Queen Hype on Pictures with Santa “Peralez.” Free admission courtesy of Local 230 and Councilmember Peralez’s Office. Queen Hype is donating a door prize and the cookie decorating activity. Local 230 and the Winter Candyland team (Council District, Queen Hype and center staff) will distribute 60 holiday trees to families in need.
