Two Grants Awarded to Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Service’s (PRNS) Out of School Time Program

Two grants have been awarded to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Out of School Time Program; the H.I.T.S. (Honest, Integrity, Teamwork, Sportsmanship) Grant through USTA and NRPA’s Healthy Out of School Time Grant. H.I.T.S. is a low-cost tennis program for kids that incorporates the fundamentals of a team sport with life skills enrichment. With support from the USTA NorCal, H.I.T.S. is a fun and simple program that will include training and resources to run a tennis program at PRNS sites. With this grant, PRNS will implement the H.I.T.S. program at all 10 F.I.T. Camp locations. In addition, the NRPA Grant will allow PRNS to provide additional meals and snacks to program participants, offer a structured nutrition literacy component, and develop a composting program at select Camp San José and R.O.C.K. (Recreation of City Kids) Afterschool sites for the remainder of the 2017 calendar year. For more information, please contact Neil Rufino, PRNS Acting Deputy Director, at 408-535-3508.
