Hammer Montessori Students Experience Farm Life

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ (PRNS) Emma Prusch Farm Park was the site of a hands-on volunteer day for the elementary students and parents of Hammer Montessori school in San José on Saturday, May 20. They spent their Saturday morning getting their hands dirty at the farm park, while enjoying every minute of it! Cleaning the small animal area pens, weeding the rose garden, and sprucing up the Educational Garden provided real-world farming skills for the enthusiastic volunteers. Everyone enjoyed the challenge of moving a filled wheelbarrow, shoveling compost, and spreading hay. It was a unique event as parents and children volunteered side by side throughout the day. For more information, contact Justin Long, Deputy Director, at 408-793-5579.
