Summer Solstice Month Brings Corporate Volunteers to City Parks

June is a very popular month for corporations to help their local community. Google, Deloitte, LG Electronics, Citi, and PayPal employees all participated in One Day Volunteer Events at various City of San José parks. Volunteer projects included hand weeding rose beds, adding decorative chip to planter areas, sprucing up sand volleyball courts, removing graffiti, adding native plants, picking up litter, and cleaning park benches, picnic tables and playground equipment. More than 600 volunteers provided over 1,800 hours of service, which equates to 45 weeks of staff time. The value of this volunteer time is over $51,000, which is a big boost to the beauty and safety of our parks. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) appreciates the support of our Corporate Connections Volunteers and is grateful for their forward-thinking strategy that provides employee time and monetary funds to make our City parks clean and green for all children, families, seniors, and active adults! For more information, please contact Justin Long, PRNS Deputy Director, at (408) 793-5579.
