Camp San José at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Berryessa Community Center wrapped up another successful summer of FUN. For eight weeks, Berryessa had full enrollment of nearly 100 participants, filling the community center with joy and laughter. It was a jam-packed summer, filled with activities such as themed arts and crafts and specialty clubs. Campers enjoyed listening to multiple guest speakers like professional UFC fighter Mike Willis, Cordell Bailey from the Department of Transportation, and a group of professional Major League Soccer players from Sporting Kansas City. Berryessa hosted its first summer camp music day event where campers got to make musical instruments, enjoy special performances, and participate in a hip hop workshop taught by the camp staff. The Space Maker Bus even visited the community center, where campers got to make unique science projects. Each week campers went on different fields trips to locations, including Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Academy of Science, Golfland, and Raging Waters, and finished the 2017 season with a Hawaiian themed carnival.
