ESD’s programs and services affect everyone in San José. Staff operate the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility, provide a clean and reliable source of drinking water, manage garbage collection and recycling, keep litter and pollution out of the local watershed and San Francisco Bay, and lead innovative sustainability programs, among other services.

The ESD 2017 Annual Report provides a succinct overview of the department and highlights the many ways ESD, working with City and community partners, achieved its mission of delivering world-class utility programs and services to improve our health, environment and economy.
