Review of Marketing Plans and Budgets

To ensure that the City’s marketing resources are being utilized efficiently and effectively, the Communications Working Group reviews every member’s marketing plans and budgets annually. This peer-review process is designed to help measure the return on the City’s marketing investments and improve the synergy between the various efforts to market San José.

    Overview

During the 2009-2010 fiscal year, the Communications Working Group initiated a peer-review process for each member's marketing plan. This allowed the group to gain a better understanding of each other’s target audiences, strategies, and goals, coordinate efforts to address common challenges and offer valuable feedback. In the spring, each member was asked to submit a proposed marketing budget (for their City/RDA allocation) for the group's review and feedback prior to the adoption of the 2010-2011 budget. The following Information Memo PDF from the Chair of the Communications Working Group details the results of the committee's review.

The Communications Working Group continues to conduct this review of members' marketing plans and budgets annually, with an emphasis on developing strong metrics to measure the success of each group's efforts.
