City Adopts Economic Development Initiatives
POSTED: 2/15/2012
Last month, the City Council voted unanimously to approve new incentives to encourage employers to expand and create jobs in San José.
"Our actions today signal to the market that San José is committed to working with our corporations and developers to stimulate private investment that will retain and attract jobs," Mayor Reed said. "San José is open for business."
The new incentives:
- Lower construction taxes for office, Research and Development, and other job-generating developments;
- Lower traffic-impact fees for new development in North San José;
- Reduce regulations impeding development in North San José;
- and
Add staff to process planning and building permits, ensuring that San José can move at the speed of business.
San José currently has more than 9 million square feet of vacant office/R&D space in Downtown, North San José and Edenvale. North San José - home to global industry leaders including Brocade, Cisco and eBay - has 300 prime, vacant acres available for development.
