Business Attraction & Retention Initiatives
To spur job growth and generate new city revenues, Mayor Reed has made it a top priority to attract new businesses to San José and ensure that existing companies stay here and grow here.
During Mayor Reed's tenure, several driving industry companies have moved to or expanded in San José, with much of this growth taking place Downtown and in North San José and Edenvale Technology Park. In addition, San José ended 2010 with year-over-year job growth and some economists expect San José and Silicon Valley to lead the state in job growth during 2011.
These accomplishments are the direct result of numerous economic development initiatives championed by Mayor Reed.
- Mayor Reed has led the charge to improve and streamline the City’s permitting process. In 2010, the Mayor and City Council increased funding for the city’s Special Tenant Improvement & Industrial Tools Installation (STI/ITI) programs, which offer expedited reviews to relocating/expanding businesses. - Mayor Reed has supported strategic business incentives to attract/retain companies that will create new jobs in San José and provide ongoing tax revenues for the city.
- In his 2011 March Budget Message, Mayor Reed proposed reducing the fees, taxes and other costs that businesses incur when relocating or expanding in San José.
- Mayor Reed has met with more than 150 San José and Silicon Valley CEOs to thank them for their investments in our communities and to encourage them to stay here and grow here.
