At the core of our work is making recommendations that strengthen public accountability, and improve government efficiency and effectiveness of City programs. As such, our office actively monitors the progress of the recommendations we make in our reports. The City requires that audit recommendations be implemented or otherwise resolved to the satisfaction of the City Manager, the City Auditor, and the City Council. Accordingly, our office, in coordination with the City Administration, monitors the implementation of audit recommendations. The City Auditor prepares semi-annual follow-up reports on the status of all unimplemented City Council-approved audit recommendations.
Our audit recommendations identify ways to:
- Maximize City revenues or identify opportunities for new revenues or cost savings;
- Manage or utilize City resources, including public funds, personnel, property, equipment and space in an economical and efficient manner; and
- Identify causes of inefficiencies or uneconomical practices, including inadequacies in management information systems, internal and administrative procedures, organizational structure, use of resources, allocation of personnel, purchasing policies and equipment.
