  1. San José Housing Department Holding Additional Public Informational Meetings on Affordable Housing Impact Fee & Inclusionary Housing

    The Housing Department began a public outreach process last August to include developers and other stakeholders. A series of informational meetings has already been held regarding the implementation of the Affordable Housing Impact Fee (AHIF) as well as an overview of the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance. The Housing Department now has scheduled an additional series of eight meetings through June to provide up-to-date information on the AHIF Program (with specific information on how developers might apply for the “pipeline exemption” for projects already in process), and Inclusionary Housing Ordinance.     In this class instructor Stan Walerczyk discusses options and opportunities for nonresidential lighting retrofits in the context of requirements in the 2013 & 2016 Title 24 Building Energy Standards. Even if you attended last year’s class, this updated version delivers new information, including Title 24 changes, better LED products, how requirements for prevailing wages apply to lighting retrofitters, PG&E kilolumen rebates that provide incentives on total kilolumens saved rather than per fixture, and PG&E’s trial Lighting Design Assistance program which directly pays approved lighting designers and incents lighting power densities’s below 0.5 WSF. Human Centric Lighting, evolving methods for measuring CRI, growing challenges to using light meters, cost effective controls ideas, and selected case studies will be presented.   2. Step Up and Power Down Enhanced O&M Training Series: San Jose, Spring-2016

    May 23, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ San Jose Environmental Innovation Center

    The Enhanced O&M training series is targeted at building operators who are located in San Jose and are serious about developing their data analysis skills and improving building performance. These trainings will focus on building tune-up opportunities, optimal control strategies, fault detection tools, building measurement techniques, data graphing and energy-saving calculations. Participants apply what they learn to their own buildings with the support of PG&E and the instructional team. The Enhanced O&M training series is part of Step Up and Power Down, a movement launched by PG&E, City of San Francisco and City of San Jose to reduce energy waste by turning simple, everyday actions into new, energy saving routines and habits. These free trainings involve nine half-day classes that take place over a four month period. Lunch is provided at each session.

    Registration is now open for the San José Public Library’s (SJPL) third annual bicycle tour, Gira de Libro Tour by Bicycle. The community is invited to safely ride with SJPL and enjoy the City of San José’s libraries and bikeways. The tour is a guided community and staff bicycle ride that will visit five of San Jose’s 24-branch libraries on Saturday, May 14th. Cyclists will meet at the Tully Community Branch Library at 9:00 a.m. and will visit four other branches before concluding the tour back at Tully Community Branch covering a total distance of 20.5 miles. Lunch will be provided at the Santa Teresa Branch Library; in addition, each library stop will include snacks, library tours, and activities.

    Consider amendments to the Sign Code to allow Free-standing Programmable Electronic Signs at three public vehicular entryways within the Airport Sign Zone. Consider amendments to the Zoning Code to add a new chapter to implement the State Housing Density Bonus and Incentives Law and provide affordable housing incentives. Amend the Residential Zoning District Chapter to: 1) Increase maximum allowable height and stories for R-M to align with Urban Residential and Transit Residential land use designations; and 2) Allow secondary units in the R-2 Two-Family Residence Zoning Districts. Also, amend the Zoning Code and Title 6 (Business Licenses and Regulations) to simplify the permit process by allowing the issuance of a Special Use Permit and determination of PC or N.
