SUBJECT:     AUTHORIZATION TO ADD POSITIONS WITH LIMIT DATE OF JUNE 30, 2002 IN THE PARKS, RECREATION, AND NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOR THE COMMUNITY BASED AFTERCARE PROGRAM.

 

COUNCIL DISTRICT:  City-wide

 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Authorize the addition of the following positions with limit dates of June 30, 2002 in the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department (PRNS) for the Community Based Aftercare Program:

1.0  FTE Community Coordinator

2.0  FTE Youth Outreach Worker II Full-time

 

BACKGROUND

 

On June 12, 2001 the City Council approved an agreement with the County of Santa Clara accepting a Community Based Aftercare Program (CBAP) subgrant for the period May 15, 2001 through June 30, 2002.

 

The CBAP will provide support services for incarcerated youth to improve the skills necessary for a successful transition into the community and school system, supplementing the County Probation Department’s efforts with community-based support services.

 

ANALYSIS

 

The Community Coordinator position would be funded by the administrative portion of the grant. The Youth Outreach Worker positions would be funded by from the programmatic portion of the grant.
