Below is the list of staff members in the District 10 office and their areas of responsibility.

Kathy Sutherland
Chief of Staff


Kathy grew up in Almaden and remembers when the Expressway was a 2 lane road. She has volunteered with San Jose Unified School District, Girl Scouts, the City of San Jose’s Strong Neighborhoods Initiative and the Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund.  She has helped non-profits provide community events such as the Grand Opening of Guadalupe River Park & Gardens and Bark in the Park.  Kathy also has worked for several years supporting neighborhood business districts in San Jose.  Kathy and her husband Craig have two grown daughters and a son-in-law.

Linda Alexander
Executive Assistant

Linda received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Communicatons Studies from California State University, Sacramento. After Graduation, Linda accepted a position with a Silicon Valley High Tech Company in the contracts Management Department. For ten years her responsibility was to negotiate Government and Commercial Maintenance and Software Licensing contractual agreements with Customers in the Southwest and Central Regions. Prior to joining the District 10 team, Linda spent 5 years in Staffing Management working for a Non Profit Staffing firm in downtown San Jose. Linda actively volunteers in the political arena. She was woman of the year in 2000. In her spare time she is active and volunteers her time in the community, school, Boy Scouts of America (Weeblos II). She has held offices in her Church, Jack & Jill of America and the Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Linda enjoys interacting with people. She looks forward to fun times with her family, friends and enjoys creative memory scrapping sessions.

Laura Cowan
Council Assistant

Laura is very familiar with the bay area as she has spent her entire life here in Silicon Valley. Laura earned her Bachelors of Science in Political Science from Santa Clara University in 2008. Before joining the District 10 Office, she completed internships in Council District 1 and FairVote - The Center for Voting and Democracy in Washington DC.

Nitila Patel
Council Assistant

Nitila graduated from the Academy of Art in San Francisco with a Bachelors in Fine Arts. She has lived in the bay area for over 10 years.

Assignments: Graphic Design, Newsletters, Website maintenance.

Lauren Profeit
Council Assistant

Lauren was born and raised in Silicon Valley. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and the University of Southern California, where she earned a Master of Public Policy degree. Prior to joining Councilmember Pyle’s staff, Lauren worked for Jerry Hill, a member of the California State Assembly.

Assignments: Council Agenda, Emergency Preparedness, Disabilities Advisory Commission, Family/Domestic Violence Commission, Valley Transportation Authority, Newsletter, Neighborhood Associations, Constituent Services, Press Releases and Council Ceremonial Items

Frank McLaughlin

Community Safety Specialist

A long-time District 10 resident, Frank is a former police officer who spent 20 years with the Chicago Police Department. He has also served as an investigator with a San Jose law firm and as a crime prevention/community service officer with the Morgan Hill Police Department. Frank will respond to neighborhood, business and school safety concerns in District 10. If you, your block, neighborhood association, school or business would like to receive information about crime prevention or other safety issues, or if you would like expert advice on how to avoid being a victim of crime, Frank would be happy to coordinate that for you!
