Councilmember Chu Releases Statement Regarding the Fatal Shooting
of Daniel Pham
(San José, CA) On
Sunday, May 10, 2009, San José Police Department Officers
were dispatched to a residence in District 4 to respond to
a family disturbance. This event ended in a fatal shooting
of Daniel Pham. “I am saddened by the events that transpired
and resulted in a fatal outcome,” said Councilmember
Kansen Chu, “my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family.”
Safety in the community is one of Councilmember
Chu’s highest priorities. An investigation is already
underway by the San José Police Department’s
Homicide, Crime Scene, and Internal Affairs units and is being
monitored by an investigator of the Santa Clara County District
Attorney’s office. “This is truly a tragic incident,
but we have to remain objective until the investigation is
concluded,” said Councilmember Kansen Chu.,” said

Chu.
The next few days will be extremely crucial
in ensuring the investigation is conducted in a fair and objective
manner. In order to have a thorough and complete process,
Councilmember Chu intends to include the involvement of City’s
Internal Police Auditor, Internal Affairs and any other department
necessary to ensure that the investigation is conducted properly.
