Councilmember Chu Joins Forces with Vice-Mayor Cortese
SAN JOSÉ, Calif., June 13, 2008—
Vice Mayor Dave Cortese, Councilmember Kansen Chu and the
Vietnamese Chinese Business Association of America are co-hosting
an event to raise funds for the victims of the devastating
earthquake in China, a tragic natural disaster that left 70,000
people dead, 15,000 missing, and another 15,000 homeless without
the basic resources needed to survive day to day.
As of May 22, 2008, 500 tents and 2,000 sleeping bags had
been secured, which United Airlines will deliver to China
as part of their sponsorship. The public is urged to open
their hearts to our neighbors across the world by sponsoring
the purchase of a tent or sleeping bag. Each donor can write
a short message or plain autograph on the tent/sleeping bag,
so the recipient can appreciate the contribution.
