Different opinions don't justify recall

As elected officials, we need to listen to the people, and then balance what we hear with our own best judgment. On Nov. 20, that is what I did when I voted to name the business district along Story Road "Little Saigon." Most of my colleagues felt differently, and I respect their opinion. The issue is now behind us. Now, we must move forward. A recall is not the solution. Such an action should be reserved for the most egregious offenses by public officials. That is not the case before us. San Jose is a great city, and many challenges lie ahead. There are roads we need to fix, parks that need to be built, libraries to keep open, and jobs that we need to bring back to our city. We can't afford to ignore these issues. My hope is that as we approach the new year and turn the page, we leave our differences behind and, instead, cherish everything we have in common.
