San José City College, take note of the 27 beautiful Coast Live Oak trees (Quercus agrifolia) planted along this busy thoroughfare above Highway 280. Thanks to the hard work of community volunteers, a once barren strip of soil and sidewalk will now be shaded by California natives. With help from volunteers, OCF triple-staked each oak for extra protection and lined the area with water-conserving mulch.

Hester Park originally opened in 1996. The Park is adjacent to the Rose Garden
Library and is used by many residents. The $218,000 renovation project replaced the old playground equipment and surfacing to meet the current guidelines for accessibility and safety. Hester Park is the only park in the Rose Garden & Shasta/Hanchett neighborhoods that has play equipment for young children to play on. |
 
 
“I am very pleased that Hester Park is re-opened for the community,” stated Councilmember Pierluigi Oliverio.
