The City of San José and the U.S. Department of Energy announced today the opening of the San José Green Vision Clean Energy Showcase, an interactive new innovation center housing installations of cutting-edge clean energy technologies available on the market today and in the future.
Bring the oil or grease from your holiday feast to a FREE drop-off on Saturday, November 27th at the Environmental Innovation Center (1608 Las Plumas Avenue) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Dispose of your cooking oil and grease properly by collecting it in a non-breakable container for drop-off at this event. The City of San José is proposing a new regulation to ban both plastic and paper disposable shopping bags provided at all stores. Retailers may offer paper bags made out of 40% recycled content for 10 cents each. Customers would be encouraged to shop with reusable bags. Attend this public meeting to learn about the proposed regulation, before consideration by City Council.

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Solar America Cities grant funds to the City of San José for seven solar projects – the largest number awarded to any city in the nation.

Residents can now check out free energy meters from several San José public libraries to evaluate their energy use beginning July 20. Saving energy can save money and help reduce pollution and greenhouse emissions. This program is part of the City’s efforts to educate the community about energy use and efficiency.
The San José City Council has moved San José closer to becoming 100 percent energy independent by authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop guidelines and potential lease terms for the development of an organics-to-energy biogas facility on a 40-acre site near the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant.
