Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste
Improper disposal is a major source of creek and river pollution. All chemicals
if they wash into creeks, even non-hazardous soaps and cleaners, are poisonous
to fish and other life. Do not to use any chemicals where they could wash
into a gutter. These flow to storm drains, then to your local creek and
finally the Bay. (Of course, always keep all chemicals safely away from
children and pets.)
It is best to prevent the need for disposal in the first place. The best
way to lessen the amount of Household Hazardous Waste you accumulate is
to reduce the amount you buy. If you must buy hazardous chemicals use
them up or give them to someone who can. But, if you feel that you cannot
use the chemicals safely, dispose of them properly.
