Overview

In November 2023, the GovAI Coalition was established to give local government a voice in shaping the future of AI and ensure that AI development is geared toward the benefit of society.

The GovAI Coalition is composed of over 1,500 members and over 500 local, state, and federal agencies united in our mission to promote responsible and purposeful AI in the public sector.

The GovAI Coalition is committed to:

  1. Using AI for social good,
  2. Ensuring ethical, non-discriminatory, and responsible AI governance,
  3. Promoting vendor accountability,
  4. Improving government services, and
  5. Fostering cross-agency collaboration and knowledge sharing.

More information about the mission and work of the GovAI Coalition can be found in the Coalition’s Open Letter. Public agencies and members of civil society, academia, and the private sector may sign up to become involved with the Coalition below, under “How to Join”.

Core Policy Templates

Our members have worked diligently to create a suite of policy templates and knowledge-sharing tools that any public agency can use to jumpstart their own AI governance program. We invite policymakers to borrow, edit, and adopt these templates for their own use.

Additional AI Governance Resources

  • Guide to Measuring AI Performance: Provides an initial view of the kinds of performance metrics you would expect to see from different classes of AI systems and for different use cases.
  • Buyer's Guide to Enterprise GenAI Tools: Provides agencies who are seeking to procure an internal LLM tool or other enterprise generative AI tool with key issues and questions to consider during the buying process.
