Does San Jose have a policy to limit closures and post detours?
Yes, the Trail Program's policy on closures requires advance posting of closures both at the closure site and on-line. The policy is adhered to by private contractors and City Departments.
Why do projects take so long?
You may not see construction crews on site every day. The length of many trail projects can result in contractors not visiting areas of the project for extended periods of time. The City requires that construction sites be closed even when no work is underway because site conditions may be hazardous. The City works closely with its contractors to expedite work but also permits scheduling flexibility to obtain the lowest bid prices to make the most of public funds.
What other projects are underway?
The listed projects only represent projects that are now under construction. San Jose has many trail projects in earlier phases of development that do not appear on this list. Click here for the Annual Report for a complete list of active projects.
