Local Assistance Center - Services Have Now Moved
From February 25 to March, nearly 2,000 households from the flood-affected areas were served at a multi-agency support center established at the Shirakawa Community Center. The participating agencies have since returned to their respective home bases in the community.

Important key services are still available as follows:

Distribution of Flood Victims Relief Fund
Sacred Heart Community Services

Flood victims that meet criteria outlined below may qualify for financial assistance through the San Jose Flood Victims Relief Fund. Sacred Heart Community Services is responsible for fund distribution. In order to receive a check residents must go to Sacred Heart and bring:

  • Proof of Residence (photo I.D. with address OR two pieces of mail including recent utility bill)
  • Proof of Income (most recent pay stub OR social security check OR disability check

To be eligible for assistance from the Relief Fund, the resident must:
  • Have been displaced either temporarily or permanently as a result of the flood;
  • Have lived as the primary resident in a property where the City's damage assessment found either affected, minor, or major damage to the building; and
  • Be vulnerable to housing instability due to the flood, as determined by age, income level, health status, presence of minor children in the household, or other special need.

Housing Assistance, General Inquiries, and Expedited Building Permits
San José City Hall

If driving, park under the City Hall Tower on 6th Street and bring the parking stub to the first floor for validation.

People affected by the flood can go to City Hall for housing assistance and expedited building permits, as well as access to a range of flood assistance information. 
  • First Floor Counter #5 - Housing assistance and flood recovery information: Visit Counter #5 in the Permit Center, first floor, San José City Hall. Staff there will help people connect with resources for food, housing, social services, legal assistance, mold remediation, and more.
  • First Floor Assistance Desk - Expedited building permits: Visit the Assistance Desk in the Permit Center, first floor, San José City Hall. Tel: 408-535-3555. The city has waived permit fees for construction work associated with flood recovery.

Transportation Assistance

Free Taxi Service between Shelter, City Hall, Sacred Heart and Homes. Flood victims can call Yellow Cab at 408-777-7777 for a ride between the Seven Trees shelter, Sacred Heart Community Services, San Jose City Hall, and their homes. Provide the driver with Account #1421 to cover the taxi fee.

A wide range of information is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese to assist residents and business owners in the flood affected areas.
