Disposal of Flood-Related Debris

Recovery from flood damage may require demolition and/or construction. Residents may contact licensed removal contractors to provide construction and demolition (including dirt/mud) debris bins and boxes in sizes from 10-40 cubic yards.

Removal contractors licensed by the City of San José for these services are listed in English.

Acceptable items include: recyclable and non-recyclable building materials, packaging, rubble, rock, concrete, asphalt, and dirt.

You or your contractor are responsible for costs associated with these services.

City’s Free Junk Pickup Service

 You can make an appointment to get rid of household items damaged by the flood. It’s easy and FREE!
  • Call your recycling company to make an appointment. Use the Residential Services Lookup to find your recycling company.
  • Set out large items (i.e. furniture, appliances, boxes) for pickup.
  • California Waste Solutions or GreenTeam of San Jose will pick them up.

Report Illegal Dumping

Report illegal dumping in San José by calling the Customer Contact Center at (408) 535-3500 or using the My San Jose app. If you witness dumping in progress, call the San José Police Department non-emergency line at (408) 277-8900.
