Lighting City Hall

What We Do

The Rotunda, a focal point for San Jose City Hall, is the primary location for public gatherings, ceremonies, and special events.  The 10-story glass dome is fitted with an interior color lighting system that may be programmed to illuminate the building for official City business as well as Honorary or Solidarity acts as recognized by the City.  The Rotunda lighting system may also be available for the illumination of private and public events.   

The Tower at City Hall is an 18-story building and home to nearly 2,000 employees.  It serves as the primary location for legislative and administrative operations. Tower lighting is not intended as a form of free expression but relating to official City business and in honor of local, national, or world events.

Please contact your local council member regarding Tower lighting associated with official ceremonial business. 


In the event of a scheduling conflict, priority will be given in the following order:

  • Honorary or Solidarity Events
  • Facilities Rental Agreements
  • Approval by City Manager or Events by Proclamation
  • Sporting events and holidays
