Mayor's Gang Prevention Task Force - Policy Team

Public Safety > Mayor's Gang Prevention Task Force > Policy Team > Meeting Agendas > Archive

San José prides itself on being one of the safest big cities in America. We have earned this distinction by working together collaboratively with City Departments, our local schools, businesses, community and faith-based organizations, and other government agencies to ensure that our youth are kept safe from gang violence.

Our youth today, will be the driving force for tomorrow’s society. It is our job to guarantee that they are given every opportunity to be successful in school and in life.

The goal of the Task Force is to reclaim our youth. The task force has been in existence since 1991, well before my term as Mayor, and I believe in it because it has been successful. I am confident in its future because it plays an integral role in San José continuing to be the Safest Big City in America.

People often ask me why this task force is so successful.  The key is collaboration. The Police Department alone can not combat gangs.  This task force works because of the strong relationships it has built.
