Workshops Give Community Leaders Resources
to Help Prevent Gang Activity
On November 15, more than 300 people gathered at City Hall with a commitment to
combating gang activity. At the Mayor's
Gang Prevention Task Force's Crime and Gang Prevention Summit, community
activists, neighborhood leaders, and concerned residents attended workshops and
a Resource Fair at which they learned how to identify gang activity, combat
graffiti in neighborhoods, and understand the gang life style.
Residents learned
the steps that they could take to make a difference in the City. In addition,
the event featured a panel of former gang members who spoke about their real
life experiences on the streets and how they escaped the lifestyle. Since
1991, The Mayor's Gang Prevention Task Force has worked collaboratively with the
community to combat gang activity in San Jose. Earlier this year, over a thousand
residents joined Mayor Reed at Town Hall Meetings throughout the City to help
develop a new Strategic Work Plan for the task
force. For more information on how to combat gang activity call 408-277-2741 or click here. To report graffiti in your neighborhood call 408-277-2758 or click here.
