New dialing procedures for the CA 408 Area Code
April 2, 2012
The 408 area code, which primarily covers Santa Clara County, will require a new area code by the fourth quarter of 2012. The new area code, 669, is necessary because all of the available three digit numbers combined with 408 are expected to be assigned by that date. On April 21, 2012, residents and businesses in the 408 region should begin dialing 1 + area code + telephone number for all calls. If you only dial seven digits, your call will still be completed for the time being. Beginning October 20, 2012, you will have to use the new dialing procedure or your call won't be completed. For more information, visit the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) website.
