San Jose Medical Center
On January 16, 2007, the property owner of the San Jose Medical Center, San Jose Hospital L.P., filed a Planned Development Permit (File No. PD07-008) to allow the demolition of ten buildings on the San Jose Medical Center site. Since then, the Planning Department determined that completion of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was necessary to study the environmental impacts of the proposed demolition (An EIR is a complete study of all the possible significant environmental impacts of a project and all the possible ways of reducing or mitigating these impacts).
The City held a Public Scoping meeting on August 9, 2007 to provide information on the proposed demolition and to establish a forum for the public to provide comments on the scope of the environmental analysis. The input received during the meeting was used as part of preparation of the EIR. Staff circulated the Draft EIR for public review during the Summer of 2008. A Planning Commision public hearing to certify the Final EIR was held in September of 2008. The City Council upheld the certification of the Final EIR January 13, 2009.
The Planned Development Permit (File No. PD07-008) is scheduled to be heard by the Director of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement February 25, 2009 at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall.
Please visit this webpage again for future updates regarding the project. The application is available for viewing at the San Jose City Hall in the Planning Department, 3rd floor.
