Green Building
October 2007, the City of San Jose adopted a Green Vision laying out 10 bold sustainability goals. Green Vision Goal No. 4 is to build or retrofit 50 million square feet of green buildings (public & private) by the year 2022.

In October 2008, as a result of input from stakeholders such as design and maintenance professionals, developers, home builders, and contractors, the City of San Jose has adopted a Private Sector Green Building Policy.

On October 26,2010 the San Jose City Council adopted ordinance changes to bring San Jose into compliance with CALGreen
mandatory requirements for new buildings and support the City's goals for vehicle trip reduction
and clean air. The ordinance changes included revisions and additions to the parking requirements
for bicycles and Clean Air Vehicles, and to make other related technical and non-substantive
conforming amendments.
