Classes at Kirk

Educational and recreational classes are offered through the Kirk and Camden programs and also through Metropolitan Adult Education. See the Citywide Activity Guide for detailed information about senior programs throughout the city.

Fall MAEP Classes

The MAEP (Metropolitan Adult Education Program) Fall Schedule is listed in this issue of the Kirk Senior Program brochure. We have a full listing of classes that will begin the last week of Aug and the first week of Sept. Plan ahead and mark your calendar to attend these wonderful classes. Don’t miss out!

Continue your goal of lifelong learning and enjoy wonderful classes and talented instructors!

Note: These classes are funded by the state of California and their budget is tight this year. Class minimums will be strictly adhered to, so make sure you are there for the first day of class! You won’t want to show up a few weeks into your class and find that it was cancelled!

Kirk Fee Classes

Class sessions are 8 weeks long. See the Kirk brochure for dates, times, and fees.

Aerobics-Low Impact Exercise
A special exercise program designed for the needs of the active Senior with a focus on cardiovascular, strength training, osteoporosis prevention, muscle toning, balance, and conditioning.

Line Dancing-Intermediate
Join the gang for fun and exercise as you dance to new and old line dancing favorites.  Basic line dancing experience is required. You are invited to visit the class to see if this level is for you.


Classes at Camden

Several classes for seniors are offered and held at the Camden Community Center, including Tai Chi and exercise classes. Check the Camden web site for more information.


Metropolitan Adult Education Program Classes at Kirk

Metropolitan Adult Education Program classes are offered throughout the year at various community locations. You can register and pay for these classes by mail or online. See the Kirk newsletter or the MAEP brochure for dates, times, and fees. Classes held at Kirk include the following:

American Literature--Exploring American Writers
Read and discuss plays, poetry, short stories, and novels.  Enroll, read, discuss, and enjoy!

Computers / PC Levels 1, 2, 3
Informative and even-paced computer classes designed especially for seniors.

Creative Writing
Learn an intuitive method to unlock your literary potential.  Write “nonstop” to music, learn editing concepts, enjoy lively literary discussions and guest author presentations.

Feldenkrais
Awareness through movement. Improve flexibility and reduce muscle tension while enhancing mobility, balance, and coordination.  Ideal for people with arthritis & fibromyalgia.

Genealogy
Discover proof of your family’s ancestry through records available around the Bay Area and the Internet.  Monthly field trips to libraries and archives.  All levels welcome.

Music Appreciation
Learn about composers from various countries. Recognize musical forms, periods, and styles of music, terminology, and instrumental timbre.

Painting (Oils and Acrylics)
Enjoy a self-paced and creative workshop for intermediate and advanced artists.

Photography
Learn the basics and then explore the creative side of photography.  Manual cameras preferred—digital cameras welcome.  Bring manual and camera to the first class.

Photoshop Elements
For digital camera users and computer lovers. Learn to enhance and repair your pictures on the computer.

Advanced Photoshop
Create panoramas, restore heirloom photos, and learn to use artistic and special effects. Prerequisite: Knowledge of Photoshop Elements program.
