Sports Field & Tennis Courts
The City of San Jose has various fields and tennis courts available for reservations when not being used for City-sponsored programs or services in accordance with the Field Use Policy approved by the San Jose City Council. There are 43 parks in the inventory including eight lighted fields and 82 tennis courts at 25 park locations.
To reserve a sport fields or tennis court for sponsored teams, leagues, or organizational play for the current season contact Citywide Sports – Field Reservations Unit, at (408) 794-6527 or complete and submit the Sports Field Application Form under the Important Documents heading to the right of this page.
- Sports fields may be reserved for the fall season (September – February) and for the spring season (March – August).

- All user groups/organizations must provide valid Certificate of Insurance listing the City of San Jose as a certificate holder and a secondary endorsement.
- In order to receive a resident rate, the applicant (i.e. the person responsible for the activity, payment of fees and provision of insurance) must live or own property within San Jose’s City Limits. Verification of residence address will be required (valid California driver’s license or current utility bill).
Field Conditions Hotline
Permit holders should call the Field Conditions Hotline at (408) 794-6532 to confirm the status of the fields. The hotline will be updated as conditions change. City Wide Sports staff will make updates by 2:00 pm Monday - Friday or by 8:00 am on Saturday and Sunday. Groups are expected to make responsible decisions regarding field conditions and playability. Fields will be closed if any of the following conditions exist:
- A steady rain is falling
- A lightening or electrical storm is occurring
- Water is standing on the field
- The grounds feels “spongy” and/or soil is frozen
- Hear a “squishy” sound when walking on the turf
- Have mud on the bottom of your shoes after walking on the turf
- If a footstep leaves an imprint in the turf
- If the sod is removed easily with a shoe or cleat.
