Healthy Neighborhoods Venture Fund (H.N.V.F.)

 

Tobacco-Free Community / Health

Available funds under the Tobacco-Free Community category shall be expended for existing or new anti-tobacco programs.

The goal of the Tobacco-Free Community/Health category is “to decrease the use of tobacco products and related health problems associated with tobacco use for San José residents, contributing to improved overall health for the City’s population.” All funded projects in this category were submitted by members of the Tobacco-Free Collaborative.


Education / Health

Available funds under the Education/Health category shall be expended for education programs that promote school success and improve learning outcomes for students. To be considered for funding, projects must target and measure two or more of the 41 Developmental Assets, or they must provide a Basic Human Need such as food, clothing, or shelter.

The 41 Developmental Assets defined by the Search Institute and Project Cornerstone are essential building blocks for young people’s achievement, as well as avoidance of high-risk behaviors. The goal of the Education /Health category is “to improve the academic success of San José students through programs that address unmet health care needs and provide for healthy developmental age-appropriate activities.”


Senior Services / Health

Available funds under the Senior Services/Health category shall be expended for new senior programs, the expansion of existing senior programs, and for senior discount programs for City provided services. To be considered for funding, projects must include an Information and Referral component and an Anti-Tobacco component.

The goal of the Senior Services / Health category is “to improve the quality of life for seniors by increasing subsidized programs and services, providing for basic health and nutritional needs, and promoting independent living through social and recreational activities.
