What's new with the Youth Commission

The Youth Commission currently has three commission vacancies; our District 3, 7, and 9 positions. If you are interested in applying please take a look at the Youth Commission volunteer description located in the About the Commission section.

The Youth Commission is also working to create the first ever San Jose Youth Commission Alumni Network! Since the start of the Youth Commission in 1969, the commission has achieved many accomplishments, which the 2010-2011 Youth Commission would like to celebrate. We would like to acknowledge the successes of past commissioners that have greatly helped subsequent commissioners in their later achievements.

At the end of this fiscal year, there will be 7 new representatives on the San Jose Youth Commission. With recent budget cuts cutting deep for Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, the Youth Commission will be severely lacking in resources in the coming years. To support the future generations of commissioners, the 2010-2011 Youth Commissioners hope to develop a network of commission alumni dedicated to supporting upcoming commissioners on their potential endeavors.

If you were a former Youth Commissioner for the City of San Jose, we would love to hear from you! Share with us your stories of what the Youth Commission was working on when you were a commissioner and your experiences back then. Let us know what you are up to now and provide your current contact information to sanjoseyouthcommission@gmail.com or youthcommission@sanjoseca.gov so that we may inform you of future events and how you can get involved and support our future leaders of San Jose.
