Management Fellowship Program—Benefits

 

The City of San José Management Fellowship offers tremendous personal and professional benefits to people interested in working in local government.  Management Fellows enjoy a competitive salary, an excellent benefits package, career development opportunities, and mentoring by senior staff.  In addition, the Program provides valuable work experience, offers the opportunity to contribute creative and innovative ideas, and provides an ideal setting to learn about important issues and emerging trends. Below is a snapshot of the benefits available to 2009-2010 Management Fellows.

  • Starting salary of approximately $60,500
  • Comprehensive health benefits for Fellows and their dependents
  • City contribution to the Federated City Employees’ Retirement System
  • Accrued Sick and Vacation Leave, 14 paid holidays, 40 hours of Executive Leave
  • Professional development reimbursement up to $1,000 per fiscal year
  • City-sponsored membership with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).

Fellows benefit from access to the following events:

  • City Manager’s Senior Staff meetings
  • City Council meetings on issues related to their assignments
  • Regular one-on-one meetings with Senior Staff
  • Meetings of various Council Committees, Boards, and Commissions
  • Department Executive Staff Meetings
  • Attendance at local meetings of neighborhood or professional associations
  • City workshops/trainings and local professional development forums
  • City-sponsored participation in the Annual Conferece of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA)
