International Women's Day symbolizes a focal point of in the movement for woman’s rights. It is celebrated in many countries around the world and in some countries, it is a public holiday. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements. This day was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, as a result of labor movements at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and Europe.
The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March, 2022 (IWD 2022) is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.
