Updates on City of San José Services and/or Operations
- Silicon Valley Strong Telethon: On Saturday, April 4 at 7 p.m., Silicon Valley Strong and NBC Bay Area are hosting a telethon to help raise additional funding to meet community needs and provide assistance to those who are financially burdened in the wake of COVID-19. While the initial funding secured will help thousands of families-in-need, another 6,800 families (and growing) are now on the waitlist in need of assistance.
- Follow the Rules to Keep Parks Open: The City of San José recognizes the wellness benefits that parks bring, especially during these unprecedented times. However, we all play a part in keeping our parks open. To slow and reduce the spread of COVID-19, the City of San José needs you to follow the County’s physical distancing orders and stay out of closed facilities in parks. Park visitors should not jump over fences to reach closed areas. Closed areas include dog parks; tennis, pickle ball, futsal, and basketball courts; outdoor gym equipment and playgrounds; picnic and barbecue areas; drinking fountains; restrooms; disc golf areas and sport fields. The City will close parks, in order to protect public health and safety, if park visitors do not follow public health and safety requirements.
- San José Clean Energy: San José Clean Energy has created a guide of resources to help residents save on their electricity bills as they spend more time at home. Customers can find information on cost-effective rate plans, State-funded discount programs, federally funded financial assistance, and additional resources to save energy and money. - Mayor Liccardo Kicks-Off Weekly Virtual Storytimes: Yesterday, Mayor Sam Liccardo kicked off a weekly series of virtual storytimes in partnership with the San Jose Public Library (SJPL), who provided him with three bilingual books to read to the public via Facebook live. The weekly storytimes will take place at 2 p.m. every Thursday and can be viewed on the Mayor’s Facebook channel @SamLiccardo1. The Mayor took the opportunity to remind and encourage people to use the library’s online resources, services and virtual programs while staying home.
