- #SJAlFresco: San Jose Relaxes Rules to Help Businesses Serve Customers Outside: Many businesses are able to reopen as of Friday, June 5, by County of Santa Clara Public Health Order. To help businesses serve customers while adhering to social distancing protocols, the City of San Jose is temporarily relaxing existing regulations to allow the use of outdoor areas next to businesses. Read the Declaration signed by San Jose City Manager Dave Sykes. Under the relaxed rules, many businesses without existing permits for outdoor operations or seating can register free of charge to expand their operations outside in privately owned outdoor areas, such as a parking lot, and use public sidewalks for temporary seating. The temporary rules went into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020 and last through Dec. 31, 2020, unless the local emergency ends earlier or the City reinstates existing regulations. More information and application forms are available online at www.sanjoseca.gov/sjalfresco. There will be two separate registration forms – one for use of private property and one for use of a public sidewalk. Businesses already operating outdoor seating/dining need not apply – their existing permitting still applies. All restaurants must follow the County guidance for operation. Restaurants must follow the County's outdoor dining guidance. All businesses must continue to follow all County Health Orders and social distancing protocols.
- Parks Maintenance Helps Create Fire Safe Communities: The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Department resumed seasonal weed abatement in early May after reducing services following the County’s initial Shelter-in-Place Order. Essential services like park maintenance makes parks safer for residents to use for mental and physical health, while creating a fire safe community by reducing fuel for fire. PRNS’ maintenance teams are prioritizing parks with structures that may be impacted by overgrown and invasive weeds with an expected completion date of June 30. - Limited Parking Compliance Activities Resume Next Week: Beginning Monday, June 8, Parking and Traffic Control Officers (PTCOs) will begin conducting systematic vehicle patrols throughout San José. This is the first step in resuming parking compliance activities that were halted in March due to the COVID-19 crisis. PTCOs will identify non-operational vehicles and leave a warning for owners, notifying them that it is illegal to park non-operational vehicles on city streets. Towing of non-operational vehicles will begin the following Monday, June 15. This is the first phase of resuming parking compliance activities; the next phase, expected to begin later in June, will include identifying and issuing warnings for safety-related parking violations such as blocking curb ramps, bike lanes, sidewalks, and red curbs. Parking compliance activities are being phased in thoughtfully, addressing potential health and safety concerns while remaining sensitive to community’s economic concerns as well as public health order protocols.
- PSA from San José Fire Department: Although today's revised local Health Order allow us to resume some activities outside the home, it’s important we each continue to protect ourselves and others. SJFD reminds community members to continue best practices to slow the spread of COVID-19 in their latest multi-lingual PSA video available on YouTube.
- Monday, June 8 – LIVE Zumba Gold Class: Dance, socialize and stay active every Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Volunteer Instructor, Jamie for a free modified Zumba class for active older adults. Update from the Federal Government
- New Changes to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP): The Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act of 2020 was signed today, amending key provisions of the PPP. The changes provide business owners additional flexibility and extends the program end-date to December 30, 2020. The SBA will be publishing updated information soon and the recently-issued Loan Forgiveness Application Form and the Interim Final Rules will be amended.
