Rose: Homeless with a Young Child

Rose and her daughter lived in vehicles, shelters and encampments for eight years before receiving the life-changing news that they were eligible to move into the Evans Lane interim housing community.

Rose struggles with multiple disabilities and endured many traumatic events while living outdoors. After just a few months at Evans Lane, Rose’s case manager was able to help her secure a housing choice voucher. Rose then found an apartment to rent. Her case manager provided assistance to help with the cost of moving and furnishing the new home.

Once in stable housing, Rose joined the region’s Lived Experience Advisory Board, which advocates for policy changes and services to assist households and individuals experiencing homelessness. Rose’s story is one of resilience, and she wants people to know homelessness is not an identity but a set of circumstances.

Congratulations Rose, and thank you for sharing your story!
