California High Speed Rail

High Speed Rail will construct a 520-mile high speed train system connecting the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, the Central Valley, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Construction began in 2015, and plans for the rail line in San José are currently being evaluated by the California High Speed Rail Authority, which oversees this project.

High Speed Rail in San José

High speed trains will travel on 21 miles of track through San José.
Multiple alignment options and designs have been proposed and are currently being evaluated.
In response to residents’ concerns about noise, roadway constraints, and visual impacts, San José is developing its own “City-Generated Option” that incorporates a mix of at-grade, viaduct, and underground tunnel sections south of Diridon Station.
After environmental review, the Rail Authority will develop detailed designs with input from the City of San José, residents, and local businesses.
According to the High Speed Rail Authority’s Draft Business Plan, service through San José is scheduled to begin in 2029.
