Permit Parking

As of early 2022, all Residential Permit Parking (RPP) zones were reactivated and are now being enforced. If you do not have a valid permit, you will be cited. Please view the interactive map at the very bottom of this page to find out if you reside in an RPP zone.

what you need to know

Still have questions about the RPP program? Visit our frequently asked questions (FAQs) webpage for more information.

The reintroduction of the RPP program comes with some new features offering increased convenience. You can now apply for, be approved, and purchase permits all online. RPP permits are no longer being processed and issued in person at City Hall. All permits will now be virtual. No more hang tags or stickers! Instead of looking for permit stickers and hang tags, Parking Compliance Officers will scan your license plate number to confirm you have a valid permit on file. Once established, your online RPP account will allow you to easily manage in real-time all your permits, including your guest permits.

If you do not have access to the internet or need assistance with the online permitting process, please contact us Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (844) 357-4995.

We welcome feedback about the virtual permit program and software. Your comments will help us make adjustments to our new system. This way, residents can enjoy a smooth and easy transition to virtual permitting. To submit your comments, please email us at RPPfeedback@sanjoseca.gov.

Businesses in RPP Zones

If you have a business located within a RPP zone and would like to set up an account to purchase permits, online permitting is not yet available. Those businesses will need to complete and email a Business Permit Parking Application to support@getapermit.net. Contact us between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (844) 357-4995 for further information.

How to Register for a Virtual Parking Permit

If this is your first time using getaPERMIT, please register for a new account.

When registering for a new parking permit or renewing an existing one, please have photos or scanned copies of the following documents ready to upload:

  • A valid ID or driver’s license
  • A current vehicle registration
  • A rental/lease agreement, mortgage statement, current property tax bill, or most recent utility bills covering 90 days of service
