Youth Intervention
Youth Intervention Services is the City’s internal team that delivers services to youth in the spectrum of risk, which may include such behaviors as school truancy, school expulsion, fighting and recreational drug or alcohol use. Youth Intervention Services provides various programs to assist youth in shifting from these behaviors to a more positive life path. These programs support youth in a variety of ways, and several have a strong case management component that allows staff to develop individual service plans and strategies specific to their youths’ needs.

Safe School Campus Initiative
Safe Schools Campus Initiative (SSCI) is a partnership between the City of San José , San José Police Department, local school districts, and Santa Clara County Department of Probation.Through SSCI, staff coordinate a crisis response and communication protocol aimed at preventing and de escalating violent incidents on and around school campuses. The SSCI teams are activated approximately 450 times per year by schools.
The SSCI staff provide citywide gang mediation and intervention services to reduce violence, identify and reach out to high-risk youth. Staff in this program also provide Case Management Intervention services to approximately 100-150 youth, in order to help youth adopt new pro-social thinking, attitudes, behaviors and promote a sense of self-empowerment.

Female Intervention Team
This program provides services to female identifying youth ages 11-24 who have been impacted by the justice system, attended alternative schools, and/ or have been referred to the Female Intervention Team to participate in programs and services.
The team provides specialized gender responsive trauma-informed case management services. It also provides cognitive groups in schools utilizing an education curriculum informed by and addressing issues specific to girls and young women.
Clean Slate
The Clean Slate Tattoo Removal Program in partnership with Santa Clara County Valley Medical Center, serves youth and young adults 12 to 24 years old, who have found tattoos to be a barrier to furthering their education and employment.
The program removes participant’s visible tattoos in the following areas: hands, wrist, neck and face. The program also assists victims of human trafficking.

Late Night Gym
Our Late-Night Gym series operates four nights a week at four different locations around the City and serves approximately 6,500 duplicated participants on an annual basis. The weekly sessions are designed to provide our youth a safe place to recreate.
The series offers various athletic and recreational activities, as well as hot meals for youth. Occasional guest speakers educate attendees on various resources accessible to them throughout Santa Clara County i.e. life skills classes, job training, tattoo removal, record clearance, and/or drug and alcohol dependency counseling.
Digital Arts
Operating under SJDIGI, the Digital Arts program offers several courses designed to educate and engage youth through digital media. Participants acquire the skills to express themselves through the art of music production, recording, graphic design, and video.By providing an outlet for young voices, we aim to cultivate their personal vision and empower them via creativity and artistic expression.

Trauma to Triumph
The City of San José created the Trauma to Triumph program in partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Regional Medical Center of San José to reach victims of violence within 48 hours of admission to the hospital. The program aims to connect them with critical services that can help break the cycle of violence.Jump to top ^
San Jose Works
SJ Works, in partnership with W2Future, creates meaningful youth employment opportunities to help youth build towards college and careers. The program brings together community-based employers, City departments and private sector partners allowing youth to gain work experience to build a resume.
