McKee Road Safety Project

Project Description

The McKee Road Safety Project will provide safety improvements for people who walk, roll, bike, and drive. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has identified McKee Road as a Priority Safety Corridor, a group of street segments with high amounts fatal and severe crashes. The project is located on McKee Road, between US 101 and Toyon Avenue. The improvements include:

  • New bike lanes and green pavement enhancements
  • New crosswalks where needed
  • High-visibility crosswalks
  • Raised concrete median islands and median fencing
  • Modified right turn slip-lanes
  • Reduced corner radii at selected intersections (to slow down turns)
  • Traffic signal improvements
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps

The McKee Road Project will improve transportation for all residents and community members. This project will help residents and community members gain easier access to transit, local businesses, and recreational facilities. It will also help reduce congestion and air pollution by encouraging walking, rolling, and biking. 

This project supports several City and DOT goals and plans:

    • Goal CD 1.9: Give the greatest priority to developing high-quality pedestrian facilities in areas that will most promote transit use and bicycle and pedestrian activity
