Recent years have seen impressive advances in sustainable design and growth in renewable energy supplies. However, the pace of transition must increase rapidly if we are to create a truly sustainable, near-zero greenhouse gas emissions future that offers a good, healthier quality of life without crossing dangerous climate thresholds. Rather than a few exemplary projects, we need broad adoption at scale of low-carbon design strategies, technologies, and building materials for both new construction and upgrade and renovation of existing buildings.
At this online simulcast, Scott Shell will describe how most of what’s needed for low-carbon commercial and institutional buildings is already available and cost effective today. Scott will show examples of building and campus scale decarbonization success stories, describe the role of on-site and grid-supplied renewable energy in decarbonization, and discuss key policies that have been adopted by local jurisdictions on decarbonization. |
