Try-It-Out Thursday: Daily Recommendations for Recreation

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services will be providing recommended activities to do within the comfort of your home through the Virtual Recreation Center.

Try-It-Out Thursday Activities

Here are some recommended activities related to inspiring creativity and trying new things at home:

LIVE Total Body Condition with City Instructor Diane

Thursday, 6/11 at 11:15 a.m. 

This class is a combination of strength training, cardiovascular conditioning and core work for a well rounded workout using your own bodyweight as resistance. More information here

BackYard Science: Volcano Make your own mini-volcano by creating a chemical reaction with common household items with San Jose Public Library.
Kidz Love Soccer - Soccer Robot
City of San Jose Vendor, Kidz Love Soccer shares a game you can play indoors - just be sure to move any furniture out of the way! Soccer Robot can be played on your own or with a friend. All you need is your soccer ball, a "control pad" and your closed toed shoes.
DIY Calm Down Jar

#ThrowbackThursday: May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Create a calm down jar with Faith from the Roosevelt Community Center. Focus and breathe as you watch the glitter settle helps children and adult calm down.

 

Supply List

• Glass Jar or Plastic Bottle

• Favorite Glitter

• Food Coloring

• Clear Glue

 

Instruction:

1. Fill glass jar or plastic bottle half way with warm water

2. Pour in glue until it reaches a third of the way up

3. Add 3 drops of food coloring

4. Close lid and give jar/bottle a gentle shake to mix the water, glue, and food coloring (use caution as content may be hot)

5. Remove lid and wait for bubbles to dissipate before adding glitter

6. Close lid and give a light shake to mix in the glitter

7. Now you can enjoy your calm down jar. Whenever you need a moment to catch your breath, give your jar a shake then watch the glitter settle.
