Fire Station 37 Background Information
The addition of Fire Station 37 will address a significant emergency services coverage gap and improve the Fire Department’s performance in the surrounding areas. In November 2018, San José City Council approved prioritizing money from Measure T—a Disaster Preparedness, Public Safety, and Infrastructure Bond passed by voters in 2018—to begin building the fire station. The location of Station 37 was strategically selected based on information and recommendations from a 2016 organizational review, internal performance data, and Envision San José 2040 General Plan information. From this analysis, the Fire Department prioritized 11 areas where additional fire stations would enhance system performance and improve emergency response times.
