Meeting Purpose: To inform the community and gather community feedback on an amendment to the General Plan Neighborhood Business District Overlay that would allow residential uses in the Japantown Neighborhood Business District (on the Taylor Street portion only) and to gather input on the maximum residential densities and heights allowed. Comments, concerns, and questions raised at this meeting will become part of the public record and will help inform the project’s design as it moves forward in the review process. Interpreter services for Spanish will be provided.
Proposed Project: GPT21-001
As part of the General Plan 4-Year Review, the City is exploring allowing residential uses in non-Urban Village Neighborhood Business Districts. Residential uses would be allowed on properties with a Neighborhood/Community Commercial or Mixed Use Commercial land use designations. This community meeting is only for the Japantown Neighborhood Business District.
Staff will present the proposed changes to the Neighborhood Business District Overlay in the General Plan. The General Plan 4-Year Review Task Force directed staff to conduct community outreach to determine the allowed residential densities and heights of potential mixed-use development that could result from this policy change.
