    Meeting ID: 962 0511 5350

Meeting Purpose: The purpose of the community meeting is to seek public input from San José’s diverse communities to update the San José Historic Context Statement and Historic Resources Inventory. The Planning Division is encouraging input from the diverse communities of our city on historic patterns, events, persons, and buildings/places that should be discussed in the document and specific properties that could be included in the Inventory.

San José Historic Context Update and Citywide Survey:

San José Historic Context Update and Citywide Survey is part of the City Council’s historic resource strategy to proactively identify historic resources and update the City’s Historic Resources Inventory. To carry out the identification of historic properties not previously surveyed, the City of San Jose first needs to update the existing historic context statement which has served to summarize the City’s historical development for almost 30 years.

The purpose of the Update project is to identify historic patterns that were not previously explored to better understand the broad and diverse scope of San Jose’s history. Many past studies and reports overlooked important aspects of San Jose’s social, cultural, political and economic life, particularly related to ethnic and under-represented communities. The goal of the project is to explicitly connect those previously unidentified and unrecognized patterns to the existing built environment. This will facilitate the identification of new historic properties that more fully represent the depth of San Jose’s history.
