Join Greenbelt Alliance and the City of San Jose to learn about the parking and TDM policy updates under consideration and provide feedback!

About this event

In June, San Jose council members voted to create a policy to eliminate the City’s minimum mandatory parking requirements for new developments. This policy will incentivize alternative modes of transportation like biking and public transit. As part of the process, the City of San José, along with partners are carrying out an engagement process with residents, the development community, and other stakeholders through Fall 2022, which is when the final ordinance to go to San Jose City Council by the end of the year.

Join Greenbelt Alliance and the City of San Jose to learn more about the parking and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) policy updates under consideration, ask questions, and provide feedback. At this event, the City of San Jose will go over the proposed ordinance, explain some of its ramifications, and discuss how the development review process will work.

More About the Process

The City of San José is committed to ensuring adequate parking facilities while reducing the amount of land devoted to parking as our community continues to grow. Doing so requires the City to modernize its parking standards, which have not been comprehensively updated since 1965. The citywide parking and TDM standards update is focused on evaluating requirements for off-street parking supply as well as demand management strategies in new development. As part of this policy update process, City staff and the project’s technical and engagement partners will evaluate existing parking, equity, and development issues in San José; review parking and TDM policies implemented in other cities; and engage with residents and community stakeholders on this topic.
