The Department of Transportation (DOT) wants to make Downtown streets safer and more comfortable for people to walk, bike, drive, and roll.

DOT plans to upgrade the plastic posts in bike lanes throughout much of Downtown to permanent concrete materials. This includes bike lanes on San Fernando Street, San Salvador Street, Third Street, and Fourth Street. San Fernando Street will also see the addition of protected intersections and modified traffic signals to further improve safety. As part of this project, DOT will upgrade the bikeway connection between Downtown and the Berryessa BART station by replacing plastic posts with concrete.
